On the weekend of October 19th and 20th, P9 Card Game celebrated a significant milestone, hosting our first-ever Regional Championship Qualifiers (RCQs) across two action-packed days! Not only did this event mark the debut of RCQs at P9, but it was also our first time expanding to external venues to accommodate a larger player base. We were thrilled by the strong turnout, with 35 participants competing in the Modern RCQ on Saturday and 27 taking on the Sealed RCQ on Sunday.
Congratulations to Eric Zhou, who clinched victory in Saturday’s Modern RCQ, and to Noah Bacine, who emerged victorious in Sunday’s Sealed RCQ. Both winners traveled from Oxford, and we extend our gratitude to the Oxford MTG community for their consistent support and willingness to make the journey to join our events.
Our judge team, comprised of two highly skilled Level 2 certified judges, was instrumental in ensuring a smooth and fair experience. Both judges brought extensive experience in competitive-level events, demonstrating impeccable rule knowledge, proper infraction handling, and prompt adjustments when needed. One such instance was when the foil cards from sealed products displayed significant curling issues. To preserve fairness, the judges proactively issued proxies for these cards—a testament to their commitment to integrity and sportsmanship. At P9, we are fully committed to transparency, with all penalties and infractions subject to public review. This accountability is core to our values, as we strive to provide a fair and competitive environment for all participants.
In addition to intense gameplay, we also raffled off two £50 high street merchant gift cards, adding a bit of excitement to the weekend. Congratulations to Jason Leung and William Pratt for winning! We plan to continue these raffles as a way to offset travel or living costs for future events, aiming to make our gatherings as accessible and enjoyable as possible.
A minor logistics hiccup delayed the distribution of the Sunday RCQ promo cards, but they are now ready for shipment to the Top 16 players. If you placed in the Top 16 and haven’t yet submitted your shipping details, please check your email or fill out the form linked below.
