A Pokémon TCG Prerelease event is a fun and exciting way to celebrate the launch of a new set. Unlike pre-sales or championship tournaments, prereleases are casual, community-focused events where players get an early look at the new cards and experience the thrill of building a deck on the spot.

What to Expect

  • Enjoy the New Set: Dive into the latest Pokémon TCG expansion, get familiar with the new cards, and have fun.
  • Ask for Help: If you’re unsure about how a card works or encounter an issue during your game, don’t hesitate to ask a judge for assistance.
  • Practice Makes Perfect: Prereleases are a great opportunity to hone your tournament skills. Use this time to practice deck building, proper gameplay techniques, and tournament etiquette. Make sure you have damage counters, status markers, and a coin or dice for flips.

How to Build Your Prerelease Deck

  1. Get Your Kit: You’ll receive a Prerelease kit containing 4 booster packs, a 22-card Evolution pack, and a promo card.
  2. Open Your Packs: Combine your booster pack cards with the 22-card Evolution pack and promo card to create your deck. If you need basic Energy, the organizer can provide them.
  3. Construct a 40-Card Deck: Use only the cards from your kit and the basic Energy provided. You can include more than 4 copies of the same card in your deck.
  4. Shuffle and Practice: Once your deck is built, shuffle well and try a practice game if time allows. Then, get ready to face your first opponent!

Key Differences from Other Events

  • Limited Format: You can only use the cards from your Prerelease kit to build your deck. Trading cards during the event is not allowed until all rounds are completed.
  • Special Rules: Prerelease decks are 40 cards, there are 4 prize cards instead of 6, and the limit of 4 copies per card is lifted.
  • Participation Prizes: At the end of the event, additional prize packs will be distributed. Remember, your entry fee covers the event experience, not just the cards.

Pokémon TCG Prereleases are all about fun, community, and getting a sneak peek at the newest cards. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the game, it’s a great way to enjoy the excitement of a new set release!
